jayeneAt 9 am I had the brilliant idea that I needed to sew, and I knew what! I went through my friends list and was drooling over the beautiful paintings jenthompson had in her journal (http://homepage.mac.com/festive_attyre/photos/stripe4.jpg) and I decided that the foreground gal on the far left was wearing an absolutly smashing combination.
I thought through my horde and came up with a gorgeous deep red cotton (with blue undertones) that I have been dying to do something with for the over dress and a marvelous deep blue (with grey tones) for the underdress. Sure the original looks orangy and black...but I detest orange on my person (It looks wonderful on some but I have a very pinky skin tone and most warm colors make me look tomatoesque). Besides, the colors could have faded, possibly, and that is my story and I'm sticking to it! ;)
I ran out to meijers and got cream for my hands and itching cream for my spots (and it's working thank the gods!) and jute cord. None of the craft stores were open yet and I couldn't find hemp cord, so I figured, why not? In fact I bought the lot of it, becuase I can't go anywhere until someone wakes up and helps me jump my car. (I borrowed Josh's this morning). I also found some nifty silver ring things that will either get turned into lacing rings or chandalier earrings. Now I am in the process of drying my fabric and using an old sheet to mock up a bodice pattern.
The idea is to make a blue under dress (I'll do the camicia another day, when I can get more white muslin). I have some white silk that I would like to use to embrider the stripy parts on though how I am not sure...I need to find the rest of my embroidery books. Possibly using a woven satin stitch type. I have a feeling it will be a while before this becomes pressing. The goal for completion is Juneish but if my weeks go as they have been expect LOTS of progress. Back to drafting.
