This makes me furious!
Jun. 14th, 2004 06:34 pmToday here in Columbus someone was arrested for an alleged terrorism plot to blow up a Columbus mall. Does that make me scared, not really. It's one of those things that are outside of my realm of control, and panicking about it won't change anything. Does it make me angry, I suppose a little if the accusations are true. But what has me furious is the media's coverage. Already the "alleged" is being dropped from his charges. Already they are out raise panic in the streets.
"Did you know they just arrested a man for wanting to blow up a mall? He is Al Quieda you know."
"This mall!"
"Well we can't really say..."
The implications were clear.
What makes me furious is that individual is being tried in the court of public opinion, and he is being found guilty. I had forgotten that when it comes to terrorism we are a country of guilty until proven innocent.
If he is guilty then by all means this man should be punished, but it should be in a court of law and he should be given a fair and equitable trial.
I am less then satisfied with the local media...
