I am going to be blunt. New Orleans is a mess right now, it tragic in every sense of the word (except the delphi oracle part, but this had been forseen). But, this is an entirely different scale the the tsunami. It's arrogant to say this is America's tsunami. It's hit us hard, but two states vs five countries (or were there more?) Hundreds vs thousands. It's a different scale.
I keep hearing where is all the foreign aid. Aid would be great, but lets be honest here, getting people out of the city, getting order restored, we have the resources here. We are one of the largest and most affluent countries in the world. There are boats, helicopters and rescue workers there. We have gas, if limited that can be brought in. We have the man power that can be gathered. Help is great. But crying that it's not here doesn't help.
Tomorrow at work we are donating money for Katrina victims. Tonight I'm going over my budget to give to the red cross. I know my money is not nessisary going to go to Katrina, they have a reserve that they are already using. My money is going to fill that reserve so the next time this happens they can still be there.
