So I just finished reading "Grow your own business" again. Wonderful book. The ending story is about a British Vicar who lost his job becuase he couldn't read and didn't wish to learn. The day afterwards he found a street in London with out a smoke shop that carried his particular brand of ciggeretts and decided to start a business. In 10 years he had expanded to ten shops. One day at the bank the manager asked him about investing some of the profits and handed him a contract to read. The Man replied I can't read. The Bank manager was amazed! "You have gotten this far with out being literate? What might you have done if you could read and write!" The man replied "I'd still be a vicar."
I am approaching a fulcrum in my life. I can choose the sensible path and keep working at Valvoline until I complete my degrees, I can try to transfer to Ashland after a year, and or I can start up a new business. The business is calling to me....
WhiteRaven was always about beauty as well as making a profit. I want to continue that. I am still [planning on continuing whiteraven as a line of jewelry, but I would like to branch off. I'm thinking of custom wedding gowns, or formal gowns with the jewelry and wedding parafaneilia and art. But that might be to much. I am considering making my own line of trims for sale...many many things....since this will not even begin till after my loans are paid off I have time to develop a plan. Something I can bootstrap my way up.
Will quit after this year, nope probably not. I have fun at my job and I'm learning a lot. But it suddenly seems very silly to stress out and go to lots of classes to get my BA in business when I have run a profitable business, albeit on a small scale. Maybe I'll just take a few accounting classes....hrmmmmm
